Turned (The Vampire Journals #1) - Morgan Rice

Eighteen year old Caitlin Paine finds herself uprooted from her nice suburb and forced to attend a dangerous New York City high school when her Mom moves again. The one ray of light in her new surroundings is Jonah, a new classmate who takes an instant liking to her.

But before their romance can blossom, Caitlin suddenly finds herself changing. She is overcome by a superhuman strength, a sensitivity to light, a desire to feed--by feelings she does not understand. She seeks answers to what’s happening to her, and her cravings lead her to the wrong place at the wrong time. Her eyes are opened to a hidden world, right beneath her feet, thriving underground in New York City. She finds herself caught between two dangerous covens, right in the middle of a vampire war.
It is at this moment that Caitlin meets Caleb, a mysterious and powerful vampire who rescues her from the dark forces. He needs her to help lead him to the legendary lost artifact. And she needs him for answers, and for protection. Together, they will need to answer one crucial question: who was her real father?
But Caitlin finds herself caught between two men as something else arises between them: a forbidden love. A love between the races that will risk both of their lives, and will force them to decide whether to risk it all for each other… opened to a hidden world, right beneath her feet, thriving underground in New York City. Wanna know something about me? I have never not finished a book ever, my sense of curiosity always make me continue. With that being said I never to put a book down more than I did this. Usually I can find something I like about every book I read, as much as it pains me to say this I just couldn't find anything about Turned that I found enjoyable.

The characters are very one dimensional and have no depth, I couldn't connect with them at all. Nothing really  happens and it just drags on and on. This was a short book and I can understand when short books rush things, however I have read novellas that have had more character and plot development. It only starts to get somewhat interesting towards the end, but then it just sorta fizzles out with no real climax. I'm not a huge fan of the instant love that make a character give up everything in their life for some one they just met, sometimes I can overlook it if I'm enjoying the story, but the Caitlin and Caleb thing just rubbed me the wrong way. They literally spent 15 minutes talking to each other and all of sudden they're in love? I just could get into this at all and it sorta left a bad taste in my mouth. I most likely will not read the rest of the books in the series.

  2. I dislike insta-love too :/

Gee, here I was thinking that the premise sounds interesting enough, but the fact that there is nothing enjoyable about Turned is really just too bad. I guess not every author can nail the vampire-human forbidden romance ;)

Really honest review! New follower now :)

    1. It was kinda like when you watch a movie trailer and the movie looks awesome until you watch it and realize all the best parts of it were in the trailer itself...just disappointing.
